Why You Should Do Scan Urgently!!!

1. A lot of people go through life without knowing they have hypertension. Hypertension is a cause of sudden death. This can be detected from features in the heart when we carry out Echocardiography.

2. A lot of people go about with a hole in their heart without knowing. This can also be detected if we carry out Echocardiography.

What is an Echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram is a procedure that uses sound waves to image and evaluate the structures and function of the heart.

An echocardiogram is useful in evaluating the heart's chambers and valves, as well as studying the blood flow through the heart. A doppler study is done during this procedure to measure the blood flow through the heart.

An echocardiogram can be used to detect such conditions as heart murmur and mitral valve prolapse.

How is an echocardiogram performed?

You will be asked to lie on your back on a table. Echocardiogram leads will be attached to your chest. Gel will be placed on a transducer that will be moved over your chest to obtain images of your heart.

Who will perform my echocardiogram?

Our ultrasound technologists are nationally registered by the Nigerian Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (NRDMS). They have completed special training to become registered sonographers. Every 3 years they must complete 30 CME credits of continuing education in their field.

How do I prepare for an echocardiogram?

There is no special preparation needed for an echocardiogram.

How do I obtain my results?

Results of your echocardiogram will be reported to your physician who will share them with you. Questions about the results of your echocardiogram should be directed to your physician.
